What are runes in Deadlock?
"Runes" is what most players call the bridge buffs: powerups that spawn on two bridges at 5:00 and every five minutes after. Heavy melee the glowing stone to claim it and you get one of four temporary buffs (Gun, Casting, Movement or Survival) for 160 seconds.
Don't confuse them with the small permanent buffs from breaking crates and statues, covered further down. Bridge buffs are big and short-lived. Breakable buffs are small, but you keep them for the whole match.
The four bridge buffs and their values
Every buff starts weak at the 5-minute mark and scales up until 40 minutes. Start and end values since the November 21, 2025 patch:
Gun: +12% to +35% Fire Rate and +35% to +70% ammo. Picking it up also reloads your gun.
Casting: +15 to +65 Spirit Power and 12% to 20% cooldown reduction.
Movement: +2 to +4 Stamina, +1.5 to +4m/s sprint speed, +20% to +50% stamina regen and +40% to +80% zipline speed.
Survival: +200 to +750 bonus health and 4 to 40 health regen.
Which buffs spawn when
There are two bridges, so two buffs come up per spawn. The 5:00 pair is random, and 10:00 brings the other two, so all four have shown up once by 10 minutes. The minimap shows which buff is waiting on each bridge.
After that the cycle repeats every five minutes, each buff stronger than the last. Decide who's taking each one before it spawns.
Who should take which buff
Give the buff to whoever it helps most, not whoever happens to be standing on the bridge. Gun goes to your main gun carry, and the free reload makes it a good grab right before a fight. Casting is worth the most on a spirit hero whose ultimate is up, since the cooldown reduction brings their abilities back sooner. Survival suits the frontliner who's about to take a Walker's attention. Movement is the roamer's buff: more stamina for gank routes and faster ziplines back to lane.
160 seconds covers one objective or one fight, not a farming loop. A Casting buff spent clearing camps for two minutes is wasted.
- Pick up the buff on your way to a fight, not on your way back from one.
- Check the minimap icon before you walk over. A Survival buff isn't worth the trip for a Mystic who's farming.
- If you're not taking it, ping the bridge so the right teammate does.
How you lose a bridge buff
The buff ends when its timer runs out or when you die. Cursed Relic also strips it, since it removes all non-ultimate buffs from its target, so a Gun-buffed carry is a good target for one. You'll see other players' buffs under their health bars, so you know who just picked one up.
Permanent buffs from breakables
Crates and statues around the map drop small permanent buffs when you break them, and you keep these through death. Melee them, shoot them or dash through them. Not every break drops a buff, so break everything on your route.
Each one adds a little to a single stat: weapon damage, Fire Rate, ammo, cooldown reduction, health or Spirit Power, plus smaller resist and movement versions. They scale with time, from level 1 at the start to level 2 after 10 minutes and level 3 after 30, so health goes +15, +20, +30 and Spirit Power +2, +3, +4.
Most breakables respawn every three minutes. The ones in the underground tunnels first appear at 5:00 and respawn every five minutes (September 16, 2026 patch).
- Pick up dropped buffs. Leaving one on the ground delays the next spawn.
Bridge buffs and the Rejuvenator
The Rejuvenator isn't a rune. It's the team buff for killing the Mid-Boss: faster respawns and stronger troopers for your whole team, lasting three minutes since the June 30, 2026 patch. Bridge buffs only help whoever picks them up, but line the two up and a Gun-buffed carry pushing behind Rejuvenator troopers can take a Walker that should have held.
Other permanent buff sources
Two objectives hand out the same kind of permanent buff. The Mid-Boss gives two to every player on your team, and the Soul Urn gives four to whoever delivers it. If you keep dying to a carry who seems slightly too strong for their items, check how many of these they've collected.
