Yamato

Born into a crime boss's family, Kaori and her older brother Yamato took it for granted that they would inherit the Seventh Moon when their father died. For years they led the organization as equals, bringing it profit and success, until they set their sights on expanding into America.

The plan was simple: Yamato would cross to America and build up Kaori's presence abroad, while Kaori stayed in Japan and kept control at home. Unluckily for the siblings, some of their own people did not take kindly to the idea of Kaori running things in Japan.

The revolt came swiftly and violently. Yamato died protecting Kaori, and thanks in part to his sacrifice, she and a handful of loyal followers escaped Japan for America.

Waiting for them in America was the man Yamato had been meant to meet. Unfamiliar with Japanese names, he couldn't tell a man's name from a woman's, and he called Kaori "Yamato." She thought about correcting him, but in the end she let it stand: taking her brother's name and carrying on his dream was, she decided, the best way to keep his memory alive.
